Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader(Batman)

This two issue short story is written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Andy Kubert. The two parts consists of Batman issue #686 and Detective Comics #853. The story of the short series revolves around the funeral of Batman.  If you know any other works of Neil Gaiman, then you would know the accomplishments of him as a writer. He has written a lot of novels along with some of the best comic boo series of all time. This short story is particularly special as to the author tried to imagine the situation when batman would meet his demise and what would happen as an aftermath.

here we can see a lot of well known super villains along with some of his associates lining up to get into some place that might as well be the place where the corpse of batman is being held. as usual, some are sad, some are happy, some are even elated at the news of the death of batman. the story is peculiar in a way that all of the characters have a different story as to how batman died. the cause of death of batman is not really clear. almost all of the villains shown in here claim to be the one that has finally been able to take the life of the legendary detective, the batman.

here we can see alfred, the trusted butler of bruce wayne is holding the cape and cowl the batman.  as i said before that different characters actually tell different backstory behind the death of batman, the back story told by alfred was the most bizarre one. in here, alfred told that batman was really traumatized when his parents died and started training to fight crime. so when he started to fight crime, he did not have anyone meaningful that he could fight against. as a result, bruce was almost on the verge of going insane. then alfred had called in om some friends who were just merely acting as "Super Villains" such as the penguin, two face, the riddler etc. But they were only able to keep on batman's interest only for a while.

So, in order to create an arch enemy of the batman, Alfred put on some make-up and put on a smile. Thus, the greatest enemy of the batman, the joker was created.

Yes, a part of this story actually says that the secret identity of the Joker is actually Alfred Pennyworth.

here we can obviously see the vehicle of cat woman. cat woman is riding the car for attending the funeral of the batman. in this story, cat woman also has a different story behind the death of the batman. she says that batman was shot by a bullet at one night and he was near where cat woman was staying, batman could have been easily saved. however, cat woman did not do anything and let him just die.

here we can see the corpse of the batman. everyone is coming here to visit him and give him his regards.
