Runaways - 4

Here are some more pics from the comic series Runaways. The artist is Sara Pichelli. This comic series involves a group of super powered children. This is set in the marvel universe so the big marvel superheroes make slight appearances during some issues of this series, but the main focus is the children and their parents.

so, what do you do when you find out that your parents are a group of super villains who are involved in pretty shady stuff. (most children consider their parents to be villains at some stage of their teenage years).  these children find it out and they runaway. hence the aptly titled name of this series. all of the children have some sort of superpower or another. however out of this small group of children, who have such a great bonding and who want to good and fight against evil and theiir evil parents, there is a bad egg, a snitch.

here we can see a little kid angrily punching a wall or the inside of a cave and it is shattering with only the punch of this small child. this indicates that either the child has some form of super strength ability or whatever that broke down is really fragile. the former option is more likely possible because this is a comic book series about children with super powers. we can also see that the eye color has turned completely purple, that means that whenever this particular child get angry the eye color of the person turns into purple or some sort of different color.

here we can see that a girl has a staff coming out of her body and she also has a small knife in her hand. this clearly means that the person has some sort of magical powers and she needs to draw her own blood to get the staff out of her body. this also indicates that they are in a dire situation, otherwise a person would never harm themselves just for a magical power boost.

here we can see some evil looking people having a toast for something. they are actually the parents of the little rag tag group of super powered children who named themselves to be the runaways. their parents are actually evil and their style of clothing also indicates it to be true.  the couple standing in the back seem to have glowing purple eyes. this goes on to indicate that they are the parents of the little child with the glowy eyes and super strength.

Transmetropolitan - 4

Here are some more pics from Transmetropolitan. The artist is Darick Robertson. The writer is Warren Ellis. This is a weird one. The author has imagined a freaky world where almost everything is exaggerated.

This is the main character in this whacky series. the name of this character is Spider Jerusalem. Yeah, even the name of this character is weird. he is actually a journalist. his character was inspired by Hunter S. Thompson. he abuses a lot of drugs in this series. so, although it is a comic book series, it is not really suitable for little children. we can see that spider is just walking inside what is presumed to be his office. after seeing him, all of his coworkers are running away from him. this goes on to show that everyone is either afraid of him or they just hate him.

here we can see that the main protagonist of this comic series is just sitting inside a burning room.in the background, there are a lot of news channels running on and he seems to have an evil smile on his face. in one hand he has a cigarette and with the other hand, he is petting and stroking his pet cat. his pet cat is actually a two headed cat. as i said before, everything is over the top in this comic book series. his cat also likes to smoke cigarettes. he actually adopted the cat from the streets.

here we can see a large hall titled meany hall. that means that there is or was a famous person named or with the surname of meany. we can also see that it seems like a festive season over there. a lot of balloons are flying and the flag of the united states of america. if you look carefully, then you can see that a banner says elect callahan. that means that the looks of this hall is so festive is because that there is election season going on. this also means that there is a powerful politician with the surname Callahan. Callahan might just be the main antagonist of this entire series.

here again we can see the main character Spider Jerusalem. if you look properly, you can notice a not so small tattoo of a spider on his head. is it his head or forehead? it can be confusing for the bald guys, where does the forehead end and the head begins? anyways, he is getting another cigarette from his packet. he does not have an amusing look on his face. that means he is angry at something or someone. he also has a special green and red pair of glass.

Books of Magic - 5

Here are some more pics from the comic Books of Magic. It is illustrated by various artists throughout the four issues.

This comic series contains all of the magical characters that use magical powers in the DC and its gritty version of vertigo universe. Here, a normal kid without any magical powers comes across some of the most powerful wizards and magic users and also magic users. he goes on through different timelines, different dimension and different planets and universes. It is not an easy read for everyone and not suitable for casual comic book readers.

Essex County - 5

Here are some more pics from the comic Essex County by Jeff Lemire. It is both written and illustrated by Jeff Lemire. the stories are actually grounded by reality and there is nothing too extraordinary. Frankly, the stories can get a little bit depressing at times.

In this picture we can see that a little kid, probably a boy, is walking alongside some fences and some electric posts. it also seems like the little boy has a cape flying on his shoulder. the ground seems like it is covered in snow and it also seems like it is snowing pretty heavily while the child is walking along the path. this means that the child either has to go to the place he is going at that particular time. but, however, if it was urgent, the child would have been seen running along the path, but from the footsteps it seems like this particular child was not running at all. so, it kind of goes on to indicate that this little child does not care about his health and if it is raining or snowing or not.

this is a simple pictures of a wheat field. this indicates that the particular small story in this comic short revolves around a farmer of some sort.again, nothing too out of the ordinary over here.

we can see a church in this particular picture. there are trees alongside the church. if we observe the trees properly, we can see that the leaves of the tree have fallen a lot and only a handful of leaves can be seen on the trees, this further goes on to confirm that the weather is not a suitable weather for leaves to grow on trees. a car can be seen in the backside of the church.

here we can see that the kid who was wearing a superhero cape is busy doing some really mundane tasks. this goes on to show the harshness of life. you might have the urges to become a superhero inside your heart, but, you are bound by your circumstances and the reality and the upbringing of your life. the person that wants to be a hero has to work on farms and carry bags of seeds just to make ends meet.

the kid also seems to have a small mask on his face. he is still working but he has his cape and mask with him. in this exact particular picture, we can see that the little boy is looking to the sun setting on the horizon. the sun is going to set behind the farm. the tiny little superhero has to go to study for his school and go to sleep. life can be mundane from time to time, it is actually up to us to make our life as interesting as we can possibly make it to be.

Supercrooks - 3

Here are some more pics from the comic Supercrooks by Mark Millar. The artist is Lenin Yu. This is another action filled Mark Millar comic. if you have seen the kingsman movies then you would know what kind of stories he writes. just from the title of the comic series we can instantly know that this series introduces a group of crooks or thieves who have some sort or another types of superpowers.

here we can see a person with silenced hand guns in both of his hands. he is dressed like he is about to go in somewhere for a big heist. he has glasses on, which means that either they are infrared glasses that can help a person see in the dark or he is partially blind and he cannot see properly without the help of external glasses. although, the former option is much more viable since he is a crook with super powers or at least super intelligence.

here we can see a huge mansion in the background and some of the people are walking towards the mansion. this kind of indicates that whatever huge heist that will be going on will be going on in this exact particular house. one of the people that is walking towards the mansion seems to have two huge suitcases in both of his or her hands. although this might seem to indicate that there is something of value inside there, it might also mean that the things that will be helpful for a heist is actually in there. although that possibility is pretty much unlikely because we can see a guard outside the mansion and htey would get caught if they were trying to get things inside the mansion that would be helpful in a possible heist. this can also mean that the cases have something really valuable that the crooks with super powers will be coming to steal ion the first place.

now in this panel, we can clearly see that the crooks or thieves or robbers with super powers are actually getting in the mansion and the guard is completely incapacitated in the ground.this clearly indicates that the heist is actually going to start at the point.

another panel where we can see that the crooks are going steadily towards the insides of the mansion. they seem to have really goofy clothing that they are wearing for the heist. in this particular comics series, in this heist, they are actually stealing something from a really powerful character and they are afraid of getting caught. that is why they are wearing these stupid costumes. the costumes are actually trade marks of a different group of criminals and they are actually dressed like that to frame that other group for the crime so that they do not get caught and the suspicion is diverted towards that other group..

her we can see the menacing antagonistic character whose house the crooks with super powers actually went to steal from. this person has a particularly menacing look and he also has a really powerful psychic ability. there are other characters that we can see in this panel as well.

Green Lantern: Rebirth - 3

Here are some more pics from the comic Green Lantern: Rebirth. The artist is Ethan Van Sciver. The writer of this short comic book series is Geoff Johns. The writer Geoff Johns has done some of the greatest works of DC comics in the recent years. The rebirth story line actually does not retells the origin story of this character at all. in fact, this short comic series is not actually suitable for first time readers. a lot of characters are seen to be interacting with each others and you are expected to know them on your own without too much introduction.

Here we can see the actual lantern of the green lantern. you might be surprised to know that many people actually do not know about the actual lantern of green lantern. the ring is know to everyone and almost everyone knows that the power source of the green lantern to be the power ring. but, not many people know that the main power source is actually the lantern. that is why they are called green lanterns in the first place. in this picture, we can see that the lantern is actually glowing and green light or some sort of green energy beam is coming out of the lantern. this can mean that there is a distress signal from the green lantern corps or there is something wrong or the green lantern is somewhere lose and trying to charge his ring.

here we can see three people. the person standing in font of other two is actually Kyle Rayner. it seems from the facial expression of Kyle that he is distressed and his trouble has something to do with the two guys that we can see in the back. the second guy in the picture is actually the actual original green lanter Hal Jordan. however, in this picture it seems like Hal has an evil grin on his face. there is actually a lot of things going on as regular green lantern readers and followers of this comic book series would know that Hal Jordan had become the entity of fear itself know as parallax. once again, this story is not for beginners. and the third person in the back seems to look like Hal Jordan but we know that that is not actually Hal Jordan as the second person is that. He can be spectre but he seems to have the insignia of the green lantern corps in his chest. however, the reason he sembled spectre is becaus he is actually wearing a large cloak that is covering his head.

here we can see a member of the green lantern corps. his name is Kilowog. in this picture this particular member of the corps seems to be really angry at someone or something. this does not seem to be a good sign since they do not get too angry at nothing at all.

here we can see a bizarre thing going on. it seems like Hal Jordan is turning himself into something really grotesque that would look more appropriate in an H P Lovecraft novel. he is actually turning himself into Parallax. parallax is actually one of the biggest threat in the green lantern universe as well as the entire DC universe.

Here we can see sinestro, one of the oldest and longest running villains of green lantern. he used to be a member of the green lantern corps himself. he was the actual mentor of Hal Jordan himself when Hal found the green lantern ring for the first time. it was a tragic story of how a leading figure turned into an antagonist. in this particular picture, we can see that sinestro is just appearing in from of someone and he already has a weapon drawn. he has manifested a large bow and arrow and he is targeting whomever is standing in front of him. it is more likely that one or more member of the green lantern corps is in front of his arrow.

Batgirl: Year One

Here are some pics from the comi Batgirl: Year One. The artist is Marcos Martin. The writers of this short comic series is Scott Beaty and Chuck Dixon. The name of this particular short comic series is obviously inspired by the iconic graphic novel titled batman: year one, which was written by the legendary frank miller. this story tries to show the beginning days of this member of the bat family batgirl.

in this picture you can see can batgirl is beating up two masked people. it is more likely that these two are just normal criminals or robbers. at the beginning stage of crime fighting, it is unlikely that batgirl would be fighting any super villains or members of organized crime syndicate or families. it seems like she has kicked one of them on his face and that has resulted in the guy getting pushed to the glass behind and the glass seems to have cracked and she also looks like she has one of the guys on her hold or she might have just hit the man near his neck with her elbow.

here we can see that she is just training. she does not have her super hero costume. so she is just barbara gordon, the daughter of commissioner jim gordon. if you are not quite familiar with her story, then you are not probably going to read this particular comic in the first place. she was actually shot by the joker in her stomach and she lost her ability to walk completely and moved around in a wheelchair. she became the oracle for that amount of time and helped the batman with any and all kinds of information needed for fighting crime.

here we can see that Barbara Gordon is looking up in the sky to see the bat signal. we can also see the gotham city police department sign behind her. this means that he actually went to the police station, most likely to meet her father the commissioner. and when she came out, she saw the bat signal. it is her father Jim Gordon who usually lights up the bat signal. she might go to the place of the bat signal.

here we can see both the batman and batgirl are standing on the top of a skyscraper and they are looking at the bat signal. they are actually talking about something. batman was reluctant to get another person involved in the bat family as it is really dangerous to fight crime the way batman does.

here we can see that the bat girl is on her knees looking downwards. this kind of indicates that she is actually guilty of something and she might be in the need of repenting her sins. in the background we can see a big Abraham Lincoln and the writing that says in god we trust.half of the coin is actually shaded dark. that means something dark is going on in her life at the point.

Flashpoint

Here are some pics from the comic Flashpoint. The writer is Geoff Johns and the artist is Andy Kubert. The animated movie Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox is based on this limited comic series. In my humble opinion, this actually is one of the greatest flash stories written, if not, one of the best DC stories written.

The story deals with alternate timelines. Anyone who knows the tiniest details about the flash knows that his mother was killed when he was just a child. He tried to revert that and the consequences are the worst as that they can be.

in this picture, we can see all of the flashes that have ever existed. including, jay garrick, wally west the kid flash and more. but, the flashpoint is actually focused on barry allen. for a period of time, he was willing to screw over the entire planet just to save his mother. most of the readers can empathize with the actions taken by him.

in this picture we can see Barry Allen running real fast and in the background, we can see batman, aquaman, cyborg etc. the heroes in the background are actually from this alternate timeline and nothing is actually going right in this timeline. there is actually a huge war that has been going on in this world in between the atlantians being led by aquaman and the amazonians being led by wonder woman. it seems like that these two have a really complicated history between each other and on thing led to another, now there is a fully fledged war.

in this picture we can see that Barry is running really fast and we can see that he is running so fast that he is actually starting to run on water. to a person that has not read the flashpoint but knows about the powers of flash, this would seem like a very common thing. but, in the alternate universe where everything is messed up, barry allen did not actually has any kinds of super powers. he was just a police detective. so, this is the time when he ran so fast for the first time in this timeline.

here we can see batman of this timeline. what can be the twist about batman in this timeline you might ask? well, he is not actually bruce wayne. he is the father of bruce wayne, thomas wayne. in the alleyway, bruce wayne was the one that got shot by joe chill and died. the twister of this timeline is that the death of their child led thomas wayne to go on and become batman fighting crime. but, the same shock led martha wayne to go absolutely crazy and made her turn into the joker of the timeline and cause havoc.

here we can see that cyborg is talking to batman about something and there are all other heroes of the timeline gathered behind him. yes, you read it tit, heroes. black mask and captain cold are heroes in this timeline. in the background, if you look closely, you will se that hal jordan is not the green lanter of this timeline and the original green lanterns spaceship never crashed and hal jordan remained a pilot. Spoiler alert: Hal Jordan dies in a plane crash and the death of hal pushes barry to the edge.it seems like every single one of them respect batman and they will do everything batman will tell them.

Another spoiler: almost everyone in this timeline dies and Barry just leaves this timeline in the nick of time with a message from Thomas Wayne to Bruce Wayne.

Punisher: Noir

Here are some pics from the comic Punisher: Noir. The artist is Paul Azaceta. the noir series is kind of off beat noir take on the various characters of the marvel universe. there are different noir takes on various marvel characters and groups. the art styles are made this way to resemble the looks of the noir style of the movies from the 50s and 60s.

here we can see that frank castle is getting ready for giving some justice to the gang members and mobsters of the old time 20s new york. the justice will come from the edge of his gun. it seems like he has a mask with the skull painted on it and he is sporting an overcoat. if this version of punisher is anything like the punisher we know and love, then he is loaded with arms and weapons inside every corner of the clothing he can fit.

here again we can see that the punisher has a gun on his hand and he is wearing the same skull faced maks on his face. in the background we can see a news paper a police and a building and a couple of beautiful children. this story is actually not about a single frank castle. it involves frank castle sr. and frank castle jr. father and son. two of them fighting in two separate times.

the suspicion was correct and we can see that frank castle is actually fitting in all types of weapons he can fit with inside of his clothing. this indicates that he is actually getting ready for fighting the criminals and deliver some justice.

here we can see the awful picture of the scene during a wartime. some people are shooting the opposition, some are either injured or dead. some are too worried and distressed to do anything. this is what people mean when they say that war is hell. this is actually the backstory of what is going on in the city at the time. the things that happened during world war 1 had a lot to do with the states of the things that came to be in the suburbs and the cities.

here we can see a man who does not seem to be distressed about the situation of the war. this man also has the skull printed on his shirt. this is actually the actual symbol of the punisher we know and love in the normal universe. this person is actually frank castle senior during the first world war.

Chew - 3

Here are some more pics from the comic series Chew. The artist is Rob Guillroy. The writer of this series is John Layman.

It is one of the funniest series you will read. it kind of falls into the bizarre category with its story lines and the powers of the characters but it is a great read nevertheless.

in this picture, the top part is the face of the main protagonist of the series. his name is Tony Chu(Get it, chu is his last name and the title of the series is Chew). and the bottom part of the picture is the face of one of the antagonists. there are several antagonists in the entire series and all of them are well written. the main protagonist actually has a weird power. he can have the knowledge about absolutely anything(human beings included and also inanimate objects), what is the catch you might ask? he has to eat it first. Get it? he has to chew and the title of the series is Chew.

here you can see a person locked up in a cage completely Hannibal lecter style. he is also one of the antagonists. it took a while to figure out the identity of this particular villain and capture him. however, after getting captured, he makes appearances in the series. as you can see in this panel, they are not afraid to poke fun at popular pop culture icons. and in the background of this picture, you can see a guy reading something. he also has a significance in the story.

here you can see three characters sitting on a table with something or another in front of them. as i mentioned the power of the main protagonist before, you can see that he is sitting with a finger in front of him. so yeah, this series can get gross from time to time.the person sitting completely opposite to him also has a severed finger on the table. this indicates that the person also has a similar power that matches that of the main protagonist.and the woman sitting in the middle of the table has a weird looking plant in front of her. this is actually a mystery.

POYO. One bad-ass chicken. you do not want to mess with this one. this one is actually a part of the police department task force. he is completely brutal and if you even want to lift a finger in front of this one, you better say good bye to the precious finger of yours. in this picture, we can see that poyo has gone missing. he might be missing, but you do not need to be worried about the well being of the cock. you better pray for the person that crosses the line with him.

in this picture we can see that there are mysterious insignia that can be seen all over the sky. this can mean nothing but ominous signs and something bad is coming to the earth.

Although the story can get wacky from time to time(actually most of the time), I am pretty sure most of the graphic novel readers will enjoy reading this story.

The Wake

Here are some pics from the comic The Wake. It is written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Sean Murphy. if you have read anything written by Scott Snyder, then you would know the quality of his stories that he writes. This, however, is not a normal super hero comic story from marvel or dc. this is a stand alone story.

here we can see that a strange creature is being brought up through some kind of tube and the creature is bound and secured very tightly. this goes to indicate that this creature is dangerous to the people around it and it probably has done some damage to the people that have found it in the first place and that is why it is in restraints. although it is quite possible that the humans have shackled it and bound it up although this is a peaceful creature. human nature is quite like this that whenever we might come across some things that are strange and we do not understand them, we are more likely to get it to a quarantined zone so that no harm can be done to us by this unknown creature.

Actually, this is a violent creature. and the story kind of have some sorts of similarity with that of the first alien movie. the story takes place in two different time lines. this is the older timeline.

here we see a city is half under water. that goes on to indicate that there has been some sort of catastrophe and most of the world is now underwater. this is the second timeline where all hell broke loose and some human survivors are still struggling and living in this place.

we can see that the water is coming in a huge wave and what seems like mostly a human being that is flying with the help of some sort of machine. this goes to indicate that some people are actually living pretty well in this post apocalyptic world since he or she has managed to fly with some sort of contraption.

w can also see a helicopter flying over. this means humanity is not completely doomed from the outbreak. there are still hope left for humanity as people have survived and they are slowly thriving.

here we can see the hand of creature breaking a glass. the hand of this creature is also bloody. this means that the creature we have seen in the first picture has broken out of his captivity and the people that were there to look after this thing are doomed and it is most likely their blood here.

This is also a good read, but it is not for everyone.
